Issue 7.1 | August 2020
Dear Panther Families,
Welcome to the 2020-2021 school year. We have been preparing for your child and we are excited to welcome your family. School will look different this year. We ask for your patience as we work to stay open and to have in person learning under less than ideal circumstances. We want a school environment that is healthy and safe for our staff and students. Now, more than ever, we need everybody working together.
Open house is a time to meet your child’s teacher, see the classroom, and deliver school supplies to the classroom. Below is the schedule for Open House. Please limit the number of adults and younger siblings attending. We will notify you of your child’s teacher on August 12th, after 4:00, using School Messenger.
Thursday August 13th
– Students with last names A – F; 4:30 – 5:00
– Students with last names G – K, 5:30 – 6:00
Friday August 14th
– Students with last name L – R, 4:30 – 5:00
– Students with last name S – Z 5:30 – 6:00
Your child’s teacher will meet you outside. Follow the signs in front of the school. Face masks are required at all times inside the building.
We ask that you please keep your contact information up-to-date, you seek to stay informed and that you be a source of up-to-date communication support for one another. We will be using our automated system to send communications. This gets your email address and phone number from Power School. This newsletter is being sent both by postal mail and electronically. If you did not receive this it electronically, please contact the school office.
I am both honored and proud to be your school principal.
Here are a few important items.
This is a starting place for August 2020. We will keep you updated as changes occur.
Proactive: Please continue to check your child’s health each morning before they get on a school bus or are dropped off at school. If they are not feeling well, please keep them at home. Please check this website to assist with screening your child:
Arrival: All students and staff will be washing/sanitizing hands as soon as they arrive. Please don’t drop off your child early. It is preferred to drop off your child closer to the school start time, unless your child will be eating breakfast. We will have a designated place to play outside to minimize the number of different people your child is exposed to during the day.
Meals: Students will be seated with extra space around them, to allow for social distancing. Students will wash/sanitize their hands both before meals and after meals.
Recesses: Students will have a designated area to play. We will rotate weekly and teachers will inform children where their spot is located. This will be the same spot your child will wait at when outside prior to school starting. Students will only be playing with peers who are in the same class. Please keep balls and other toys at home. Students will wash/sanitize their hands before and after recesses.
Specials/Block: Every student has one enrichment activity daily, like PE and Music. All students will stay with their classmates for these enrichment activities.
Hygiene: Water bottles have been purchased for every student. Students will keep these at their learning spot, to minimize use of drinking fountains. Students will be washing their hands often. There will be minimal sharing of supplies. If students do share something, sanitizing will immediately occur when the task is completed and students will wash/sanitize their hands.
Classrooms: Social distancing in a classroom is challenging. Staff are creative and we will try our best. Frequent cleaning of tables and desks will occur.
Devices: Every student will have a device (Chromebooks grades 1 – 5 and iPads in kindergarten) and not be sharing. Please remind them to be safe leaders online.
Masks: Our school district has purchased masks for every student and staff member. These are washable. We realize that not every family has a washer. Your child’s teacher will ask if you would like us to wash your child’s mask at school. Masks will be labeled with your child’s name.
Departure: We will release students who ride the bus first. This will help to minimize the number of people in the hallways. We will then release students who are picked up by a vehicle. The third group to be released will be students who walk or ride a bike home. If you pick up your child by vehicle, please pick up promptly. Remain in your vehicle or with vehicle properly parked. If waiting outside your vehicle, we ask that you follow social distancing protocols.
Visitors: Please make appointments first. Staff will be engaged with frequent cleaning and planning of instruction. If you arrive at the school without an appointment, you will most likely be asked to make an appointment and have to come back to the school. At this time we will not have parent/community volunteers or visitors for lunch.
