Issue 7.2 | September 2020
Dear Panther Families,
We have had a great start to the school year. Students have quickly adapted to new safety measures and our attention has shifted to learning. We jumped right in this year and took the Idaho Reading Indicator (IRI) assessment in August. The IRI is an early reading diagnostic and screener. In addition to the data collected by the teacher, we use these fall results to provide baseline data about each student’s readiness for reading and reading related skills. We will explore all data collected during data Day on September 8th.
Reading with your child can make a huge impact on their success. Whether your child is 5, 12 or any age in between, we encourage you to share time together with books and written information.
Lastly, I want to introduce Cynthia Nixon. Ms. Nixon is a behavioral health counselor. Perrine, in partnership with Family Health Services, is proud to announce the availability of behavior health services right here on our campus. Individual and group counseling is offered during the school day to minimize the impact on schoolwork and to maximize the support we can offer at school. Services are structured to complement the supports already provided by the school. For more information contact Ms. McLean, our school counselor.
Perrine Elementary has several openings for instructional aides. We are also in need of a playground aide and a crossing guard. We would greatly appreciate your help getting the word out to those who could embrace our mission and have open time during school hours to join our team.
Please keep your child home if your child is exhibiting any of the following symptoms.
- Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
- Sore Throat
- Muscle or body aches
- Vomiting or Diarrhea
- New loss of taste or smell.
With diligence, awareness and a bit of luck, we might just keep Covid out of the Panther Pride and also reduce the spread of colds and flu in the process.
The photographer will be at Perrine on Tuesday September 9th. Every student gets their picture taken for their school records. You can purchase pictures by returning the picture packet with your payment. School pictures make great gifts for relatives. My own grandkids love being in charge of giving them to others with a little note on the back.
There is no school for students September 7th and 8th. September 7th is Labor Day and September 8th is Data Day.
