Our 3rd graders have been hard at work this week diving into informational texts! 📚✨

They’ve been building their skills by reading closely, identifying important details, and turning their learning into strong summaries. This is no easy task, and we are so proud of the focus, perseverance, and growth they’ve shown!

These skills help our students become thoughtful readers and confident writers—way to go, Panthers! 🐾💜

Today we are celebrating our amazing librarian, Mrs. Barrow! 📚💜

Our kindergarten students had a wonderful time in the library today enjoying story time, fun activities, and the chance to choose books to check out and take home. Mrs. Barrow does such a fantastic job helping our youngest Panthers discover the joy of reading and the magic found in books.

Moments like these help build a lifelong love of reading, and we are so grateful for the welcoming and engaging library experiences she creates for our students each week. Thank you, Mrs. Barrow, for helping our Perrine Panthers grow as readers! 🐾📖

📚 Perrine Panthers Book Fair Next Week! 🐾💜

Our Book Fair will be open next week during Parent-Teacher Conferences in the library! This is a wonderful opportunity for families to bring new books into their homes and help grow a love of reading.

We know that the more students read, the stronger their reading skills become, and having books at home makes a big difference!

Another reason we love the Book Fair? A portion of the proceeds comes right back to our school library, helping us add more great books for all of our Perrine Panthers to enjoy.

Stop by the library during conferences, browse the shelves, and help us celebrate the joy of reading together! 📖✨

🎤📰 4th Grade Newsroom in Action! 📰🎤

Our 4th graders recently stepped into the role of reporters as they wrote and presented their own newscasts! Students worked hard to write their stories using clear transitions to help their ideas flow, just like real journalists.

Once their scripts were ready, they practiced presenting in front of an audience, building confidence and communication skills along the way. We were so impressed with their creativity, teamwork, and professionalism on “air”!

Great job, 4th grade reporters! We might just have some future journalists in the making. 🐾💜

📚✨ Read Across America at Perrine! ✨📚

Our school community came together to celebrate Read Across America in the best way—by sharing the joy of reading! Special visitors joined us in the library to read stories to groups of students, bringing books to life and making the day extra memorable.

Even more exciting, some of our Perrine Panthers stepped into the role of reader themselves by sharing books with younger students. It was wonderful to see our students building confidence and spreading their love of reading! 💜🐾

Thank you to our special guests and our student readers for helping make this celebration of literacy so meaningful. Reading truly brings our community together!

📣 Perrine Family Clubs Update

Due to a busy few weeks at Perrine, we have decided to cancel our March Family Clubs night. With our wonderful Edward Tulane Family Night recently behind us and Parent-Teacher Conferences coming up next week, we want to be mindful of families’ schedules.

Our final Perrine Family Clubs night of the year will be April 23rd, and we can’t wait to see everyone there for one last evening of fun and connection! 💜

Thank you for your continued support of our Perrine Panthers and the strong partnerships we build with our families.

🏀💜 Shoutout to Our Amazing PE Teacher! 🐾

We want to give a big thank you to Mrs. Lusk, our incredible PE teacher, for helping make recess more fun and safe for our Perrine Panthers!

Through Playworks games and others, Mrs. Lusk teaches students skills they can use during recess so everyone can play together, stay active, and solve problems the right way. Recently, students in grades 3–5 have been learning fun basketball games like Knockout and Around the World.

The best part? These are games the whole family can enjoy! Check out the videos to learn how to play and try them at home together. 🏀

🚂📚 Learning Across Subjects at Perrine! 💜🐾

Our students had an exciting day connecting history, science, and math all in one lesson! First, they learned how the railroad helped shape Idaho’s history. Then we shifted to science to explore forces and motion by building our own model trains.

Students could only use the supplies provided, so they had to think creatively! We tested how far each train traveled, measured the distance, and discussed why some designs worked better than others. Then students problem-solved, made improvements, and tried again. Finally, we used math to round our measurements to the nearest tenth.

As we were lining up to go outside, one student said:
"I always wondered why I had to know this stuff and when I would ever use it… so I’m glad I know now!"

💜 Every day wins for Perrine! 🐾

📚💜 One District, One Book – Final Chapters! 💜📚

We’ve reached the end of The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane! As you finish Chapters 23 through the end, take a few minutes to talk together as a family about Edward’s journey and everything we’ve experienced reading this story together. (Read Aloud links are below.)

Here are a few discussion questions to guide your conversation:

📖 Comprehension
• How has Edward changed from the beginning of the story to the end?
• Why do you think Edward’s journey had to be so long before he found Abilene again?
• What moment in the ending surprised you the most?

💬 Family Connection
• Which character in the book did you connect with the most? Why?
• If you were on a journey like Edward, who are the people you would hope to meet along the way?
• What was your favorite part of reading this book together as a family?

✨ Reflection
• What do you think is the most important lesson Edward learned?
• What message do you think the author wanted readers to remember?
• If Edward could give advice to someone about love or friendship, what do you think he would say?

Thank you for joining us on this reading adventure and for making One District, One Book such a special experience. Reading together builds memories that last far beyond the final page. 💜
