In this section, Edward finds himself in a very difficult place — the dump. It is a time of loneliness and hardship, but also a time when he begins to notice small moments and lessons that change him.
Here are some family discussion questions:

In this section, Edward is rescued from the sea and taken to a small fisherman’s cottage. Life looks very different from the world he once knew, but through simple acts of kindness, he begins to experience love in a brand-new way. 💛

📚 One District, One Book – Chapters 5–7
Our journey with The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane continues! In these chapters, Edward travels on the Queen Mary, is lost at sea for a long time, and is finally rescued by a fisherman. These experiences begin to change him in important ways.
As you read together, try some of these family discussion questions:
💭 About Edward’s changing character
• How does Edward feel when he is first on the ship compared to when he is in the ocean alone?
• What do you think Edward is learning while he is at the bottom of the sea?
• Do you notice any new thoughts or feelings that Edward has that he didn’t have earlier in the story?
• Why might difficult experiences help someone grow or change?
• How does it feel to see a character who was once so stuck-up become completely helpless? Do you feel sorry for him? Why or why not?

• Have you ever had to wait a long time for something or felt very alone? What helped you get through it?

Our 4th graders got an up-close look at sedimentary, igneous, and metamorphic rocks in science today! Students examined their characteristics, compared textures, and discovered how each type forms.
Hands-on learning helps bring Earth science to life — and these Panthers were rock stars! 🌎✨

Our 4th graders stepped into the role of legislators as they practiced passing bills in the House of Representatives!
Students debated ideas, shared opinions, followed procedures, and voted just like real lawmakers. Through this hands-on experience, they learned how laws are created and the importance of respectful discussion and civic responsibility.
We’re so proud of the thoughtful conversations and leadership skills our Panthers demonstrated! 👏
